About Me

Hi, I’m Donna Jo Pickett and I’m a Fiberholic.  I think I have been for as long as I can remember. I remember sitting with my paternal grandmother’s crazy quilt and tracing the embroidery stitches with my finger. My mother started teaching me to sew on a treadle sewing machine in 1962 at the age of 5. I started doing embroidery in 1972 at the age of 16, crochet in 1979 and knitting and spinning in 1990.

I remember my paternal grandfather had sheep. I remember him holding my hand as we walked through his sheep pasture.  I had to be 2 or 3 years old because soon after that he was bedfast. We got a couple ewe lambs for our two boys in 1989 and have had sheep since. We have 3 grandchildren, so now I’m the one walking through the pasture holding the youngest ones hands. I’ve said, ‘you know you can dye wool with that’ so often that my granddaughter now says it.

I love teaching. I love seeing the excitement in someone’s eyes when they realize they can actually knit or crochet when they believed that it was beyond them.

My interests are many so don’t be surprised if I talk about something other than fiber and sheep. I’ve been told I’m crafty.  I just know I like/need to create.
